It is the purpose of Epworth Preschool and Daycare, Inc. to provide an enrichment program for the two years before a child enters kindergarten. Therefore, it is our policy that a child entering the three-year-old program must be three years old by August 1 and children entering the four-year-old program must be four by August 1. Our four year-old program is also open to the younger five year-old who will not be going to kindergarten that school year.

With its Preschool Program Epworth promises to:

  • Provide a quality two-year preschool experience,
  • Encourage parental/family participation by asking a family member to help in the classroom two weeks during the year,
  • Work with families to instill children with SELF ESTEEM - the quality needed to make each child feel important and special,
  • Actively encourage children to develop a broad range of skills, and
  • Live God's love. Epworth Preschool does not have a "religious" curriculum but does believe God's presence is felt through its dedicated and loving staff.

Epworth offers three special enrichment classes along with the daily curriculum:
Discovery, Music and Motion, and Gym.

Discovery (Nature Based Curriculum)
Each week, every classroom spends time exploring the natural world. During outdoor classes in the garden April through November, the children explore the soil, worms, plants, insects, vegetables and flowers. Examples of indoors studies are birds, Native Americans, trees, and wood working. Children and nature fit like a hand in a glove so this is a perfect time to study math and science as well as early literacy.

Music and Motion
The children learn early music concepts as they sing and play percussion instruments. Young children have to move and this is a fun way to do that as they learn to listen and to follow directions and cues. A variety of musical instruments are demonstrated and played by the children.

Gym
Students will spend time playing sports and games which help improve gross motor skills, learn sportsmanship, and build patience.

When Mrs. Colleen Miller joined the Epworth staff, in August of 2012, she brought twenty-seven years of experience in the early childhood field as a teacher, director and an advocate for children with disabilities. She and her husband, Michael, are the parents of three grown children and they have eight grandchildren.

"I truly enjoy being with children and watching them explore their world. I may be their teacher, but I learn something from them every day."

Connie Slob

Welcome to Music and Motion here at Epworth Preschool and Daycare. My name is Connie Slob and I have been teaching the class since the fall of 2004. I graduated in 1981 from Ohio State University with a bachelor degree in education. I grew up in Marion and at Epworth United Methodist Church. Music has been a big part in my life. In high school I sang with the choirs, played trombone in the marching, concert and Stardusters bands, and played violin in the school orchestras. I continue to play in the Marion Concert Band and the Marion Area Orchestra. I sing on special occasions at the church and play hand bells.
